Pierogi – dumplings with meat, cheese, mushrooms or many other types of fillings, also sweet, are extremely popular in Poland. So popular that they have a festival of their own. This year it is the 14th edition of this annual feast which takes place in Maly Rynek in Krakow, from the 11th (Thursday) to 15th (Monday) of August. Maly Rynek is located just 50 meters from the Main Square in the Old Town.
All the pierogi lovers can try dozens of flavours and colours of this typical Polish dish. The festival is so famous and visited by so many Polish and foreign guests that more than 100 thousand of dumplings are consumed during the event. The festival is accompanied by a contest for restaurants and catering businesses – the general public votes for the best pierogi and the winner is awarded the statue of Casimir the Great.
