The Summer Jazz Festival at Piwnica Pod Baranami is the largest Polish jazz festival, and one of the largest in Europe. Its roots stretch back to 1996, and its director and founder is Witold Wnuk. This event, which takes the form of a series of concerts, is expanding its range by organizing concerts in the Krakow Philharmonic, the Manggha Centre, and the ICE Krakow Congress Centre, among others, and also in Krakow’s jazz clubs. Stars like Michał Urbaniak, Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock have performed here. Since 2001, a festival prize has been awarded – the “Jazz Ram” (Jazzowy Baranek) – and the winners have included Wojciech Karolak and Tomasz Stańko.
