The saying goes that there are more restaurants and pubs in Krakow, than pidgeons on the Main Market Square. To be more accurate – there are over 800 restaurants, pubs and bars serving food from all over the world in the city. Thus, it is not possible to choose top 5 or 10 because many more deserve recommendation.
We would like to present here 5 restaurants which have some characteristic feature as far as menu, interior decoration, or atmosphere are concerned.
Amarone – exclusive lunch for a fixed price
„Amarone” is an elegant Italian restaurant located at the „Pod Różą” hotel at Floriańska street. A special attraction there is a special five dish lunch menu (every day a new one) served from Monday to Friday at a fixed price of 50PLN. The restaurant offers also a wide variety of wines from its wine cellar called Vinoteka.
Pod Wawelem – a feast under the walls of the Wawel castle
The „Pod Wawelem” restaurant is an ideal place for a feast. It serves delicious dishes inspired by Polish and Bavarian cuisine. The meals are large, the beer is served in huge beer glasses, and the prices are really reasonable. The restaurant with a nice summer garden is located in the vicinity of the Wawel castle, one of the greatest attractions in Krakow.
Soprano – Italian cuisine next to the University
The Italian restaurant „Soprano” located in the very heart of Krakow (ul. Św. The interiors and the wide choice of traditional Italian dishes makes this place worth visiting.
Il Calzone – far from the crowds
If you would like to spend your lunch or dinner time at a quiet place far from the crowds of tourists in the Main Market Square, yet within a walking distance from the city centre, visit „Il Calzone”, an Italian restaurant at the Puget Palace (ul Starowiślna 15a). The restaurant offers excellent Meditterranean cuisine and a wide variety of wines. The pizza served at Il Calzone is probably the best in Krakow.
Zakładka – French and Polish cuisine at the banks of the Vistula river
Zakadka is the only restaurant in top 5 which is not located in the vicinity of the Main Market Square. It is situated in Old Podgorze district, right at the Bernatka footbridge. It offers delicious French-inspired dishes created by Rafal Targosz – a talented chef, winner of numerous prestigious awards. From the menu we recommend escargots as the starter and pork cheek as the main dish.
